If you frequent the gym, you probably must have seen one of these machines. Some people are even lucky enough to own them in their homes. This is the kind of machine that gives you a running or walking experience while you are indoors. Treadmills simulate running or even walking, thus a great booster to the positive cardiovascular health of the concerned individual. Treadmills come with digital consoles that allow one to adjust the speed in order to suit one’s fitness goals. As much as they come with this provision, it is important to follow some key rules when using a treadmill, without which great danger is posed by the life of the concerned individual.

First and foremost it is important to familiarize yourself with the machine. You should take your time not just to know the treadmill, but to know it well. You should master the machine and how it works. Learn every little or minor detail that there is to know such as how to regulate the speed. If you find it hard to study the machine on your own, you can ask the gym instructor to guide you through the process if you are at the gym.

Secondly, ensure you wear the right shoes and avoid looking at your feet while on the machine. When selecting the best shoes for this exercise, ensure you settle for comfort other than style. Shoes with extra padding in the soles would protect your bones from the high impact that comes with each foot strike. On the other hand, looking at your feet while on the treadmill might make you lose balance. It is, therefore, important to ensure that you gaze straight ahead, keeping your shoulders level and chest open. In addition to this, it is important that you land on your mid-foot or the ball of your feet, and not on your heel.

Thirdly, make sure you disembark from the mill gradually. Never make a drastic stop when using this machine. If you stop abruptly, you would most likely lose your balance and this may result in a tragic injury. Wait till mill is at its slowest speed and then hold the handrails placing your feet on the strips. Afterwards hit the stop button. As you turn around to ensure you walk off the rubber strips and not the belt.

After all, that is said and done about using a treadmill. It is important to note that after you have finished your exercise with the machine, it is recommended that you perform static stretches. Stretch your entire body so that your muscles are lengthened to prevent soreness and tightness.
